Built-in microwaves: the benefits and best buys from Caple

Assistant product manager Ashley explores built-in microwaves including the different options available and our best buys

Built-in microwaves: the benefits

Modern microwaves have come a long way. When they first appeared in the UK kitchen, do you remember how big and bulky they were? Back then, this appliance was mostly used for ready meals and reheating leftovers. According to the Microwave Technologies Association, the first domestic model was not sold in the UK until 1974. However these days, can you believe more than 30 million are sold annually throughout the world? In fact, most of us probably can’t imagine our kitchen without one! So, our assistant product manager, Ashley explores the different options available and our built-in microwave best buys:

The types...

The types…

Broadly speaking, there are two sorts of microwave: freestanding and built-in. Because they can be placed anywhere, the former is a flexible option that require no specialist installation. However, there is no doubt that this type of microwave will take up valuable extra worktop space. I think this is particularly problematic for smaller kitchens and sleek, open-plan designs. I must admit, it’s the aesthetic considerations, which would bug me. A freestanding model will mar the look of a luxury fitted kitchen in an instant. However, built-in microwaves can be tailored to match a bank of cooking appliances, to save space and create a sleek, seamless finish.

Combination built-in microwaves, like our  CM126 model, offer significantly more flexibility than standard microwaves. This makes them an ideal choice for busy families, or anyone with a hectic lifestyle and little time to spare. This model is cost effective too for an affordable solution for the modern home.

The built-in microwave with steam

The built-in microwave with steam

Just like any other kitchen appliance, there are many different types and levels. At Caple, our top-of-the-range model is our new built-in combination microwave with steam. I’m pretty sure our Sense Premium CMS260SS will make you forget whatever you think you know about these appliances and the way in which they cook! This revolutionary design redefines versatility, allowing you to steam, grill, bake and microwave your food simply and quickly. This all-singing, all-dancing model is perfect for serious cooks, who are looking for a multifunctional built-in microwave that cooks as good as it looks. It’s ideal for fans of steam cooking, too. If that’s not something you’ve ever associated with built-in microwaves, then prepare to be impressed.

These include our microwave combi and steam setting. This incorporates the benefits of speedy built-in microwave cooking with the moisture from the latter, for delicious dishes every time. Basically, these functions alternate to leave you with perfectly cooked food, which I think is a game-changer in the microwave market.

The icing on the cake…

Smart Technology Oven, Steam Oven, Coffee Machine, & Wine Cabinet in Stainless Steel

However, what really sets this model apart from the rest is its Wi-Fi capabilities. We actually designed our very own Caple Home app; it’s so handy, you can use this with your smartphone or tablet. But what really makes this different is that we’ve created all the functionality with UK living in mind. This way, you can control a variety of settings you’ll actually want to use. You can also operate this when you’re not even in your kitchen.

Our new CMS260 built-in microwave with steam is available in three different finishes: stainless steel, black glass and gunmetal. It’s even been designed to match our new C2600 Wi-Fi oven, for the ultimate in co-ordinated cooking.

A winning combination

A winning combination

Even without steam, I think a built-in combination microwave is a great option for keen cooks. Also known as a ‘combi’ these models, such as our Sense CM111 option, can be used to heat, bake, defrost and grill. This way, they offer much more flexibility than a basic built-in microwave. This type can also be a clever space-saving option for smaller kitchens because you can use them as a second ‘mini’ oven. They are actually rather roomy, so you can use them to cook substantial dishes to accompany a larger meal, such as a Sunday roast.

Our CM111 built-in microwave features cutting-edge technology with full touch controls, an ultra-durable stainless steel interior, and a sleek, turntable-free design. It boasts a 40-litre capacity and ten functions including auto defrost, turbo grill, fan heat, microwave and conventional heat, to help you serve up perfect results, whatever you’re cooking. Part of our best-selling Sense collection, the CM111 Built-In Combination Microwave is available in a choice of three fabulous finishes: stainless steel, black glass and gunmetal.

Keeping it Classic

Keeping it Classic

There’s no doubt that built-in microwaves can be ideal if you’re looking for a cohesive, sleek kitchen. A streamlined bank of appliances looks absolutely stunning and, with our Caple Classic collection, it’s more affordable than you might think.

The Classic range incorporates a variety of single ovens and built-in microwaves, even wine cabinets and warming drawers. So, you can mix and match everything you require and still benefit from a professional-style, matching aesthetic – without breaking the bank!

Our Classic CM108 is a popular choice. Available in two finishes (black glass and stainless steel), this model incorporates a 40-litre capacity and an impressive 1000W microwave power. There are eight auto cooking programmes to choose from, plus an auto defrost option, so it offers excellent functionality, too. Full touch controls, an electronic clock and a programmable electronic timer make operation super easy.

Our CM123 built-in microwave and grill is ideal for multi-stage cooking and features a stylish, mark-resistant finish that adds interest to both classic and contemporary kitchens.

Built-in microwaves with grilling

If you don’t require a full combination model, I think a built-in microwave and grill is another excellent option. This type of appliance, such as our Classic CM130, is perfect for browning dishes, as well as making cheese on toast or other snacks. The grill is powerful at 1000W and the auto cook menu offers a range of pre-set cooking modes, designed to provide the best possible results.

Our CM130 model is a practical, versatile option that’s perfect for both serious cooking and quick snacks. It features an ample 25-litre capacity, a push-pull dial control, a child lock and an end of cooking signal.

Did you know that a built-in microwave’s grill function can prep much more than cheese on toast, as previously mentioned? It can also cut down on the time it takes to prepare other foods, including meat. That’s because the microwave grill function allows you to sear and cook the meat at the same time, minimising flavour loss and maintaining its structure.

Our CM120 built-in microwave and grill fits easily within a standard 300mm deep wall unit. It’s packed with handy features – and its mark-resistant stainless steel finish is both stylish and practical.
