If you really want to make mealtimes a breeze, have you considered smart ovens? These appliances not only aim to take the guesswork out of cooking, but they give you the chance to control them from afar. However, will they really help to make your mealtimes easier? We asked our assistant product manager Ashley Allen to reveal why he thinks smart ovens make such a sound investment.

The basics

The basics

Before you spend on a new high-tech appliance, I’d consider why ‘smart technology’ could benefit you. Our sense premium ovens have built in WIFI, so you can easily connect to you smartphone or tablet and control your appliance from around your home. Imagine this. You’re putting the kids to bed and want to cook your prepped dinner at the same time.

Now, if you have a smart oven, all you need to do is put the food in the oven and walk away. You can then go upstairs and get your children into bed. And, while you’re there, programme your cooking needs via the app on your smartphone or tablet. So, smart ovens will help to save time better spent elsewhere in your home.

Our new C2600 smart oven features our Caple Home app, which has been specifically designed for the UK market.

The importance of the app

The importance of the app

Various oven manufacturers design appliances, which come equipped with their own associated apps. However, you must check this tech’s functionality before you choose your smart oven. Here, for example, we designed our Caple Home app in-house. In fact, we listened to the need for smart appliances armed with functionality,

which is more suited for use in the UK. As a result, our app is filled with useful features, including the handy reminder function. Set a specified time for an alarm to sound on your phone before your food is ready. You can then prepare a salad or heat something up on the hob 10 minutes before your food has finished cooking in the oven.

Cooking made easy

Cooking made easy

So, let’s say, you want to cook your specially prepared homemade lasagne. You could set up your smart oven to preheat, then opt for fan cooking at 180°. Why not add grilling at the end for a brown, crispy topping? You simply scroll through the options and save your favourite settings. These days, it’s all very well investing in smart appliances, however they need to be easy to use.

What can smart ovens do?

What can smart ovens do?

As mentioned, you can adjust settings and timers remotely and set up cooking notifications to be sent to your phone or tablet. You can send your favourite recipes to your smart oven, via the app, to set up automatic temperatures and programme settings. These appliances are specifically designed for you to watch your cooking process from a distance. You can even lower the oven temperature on a tablet in your children’s bedroom, if they won’t go to sleep. So, you can keep an eye on the kids and, meanwhile, your evening meal won’t burn.

Cleaning options

Cleaning options

These days, if you really enjoy cooking, a self-cleaning smart oven should be high on your priority. After all, there’s nothing better than experimenting with a wide variety of dishes in the kitchen, especially during lockdown. Then, once you’ve enjoyed your meal, all you need to do is switch on this function. Our C2600 smart oven will heat up to 475°C and provide

you with three cleaning programmes. So, you can simply choose between 1.25, 1.5 or 2 hours. The pyrolytic method literally transforms any dirt and grime into ash due to the intense heat the programme creates. Afterwards, all you need to do is simply wipe away the residue with a damp cloth, saving you from hard work and wasting time.

Premium cooking functionality

I also like the dehydrate option on our C2600 model. This will actually remove moisture from food to preserve it, making this a great choice to create dried fruit, for example. If you love baking, you’ll find your bread will rise perfectly with our proving function, too. We’ve added a Sabbath mode – you can select conventional heat

with a time and temperature (from 70°C to 140°C) up to 72 hours before cooking. We’ve even got a slow cooking function. So, you can cook over a long period of time at 90°C using conventional heat. I love pizza, so I’m a big fan of our dedicated setting, which heats to 345°C. You’re then left with a perfectly cooked traditional Italian pizza in just 2.5 minutes. Belissimo!

The Sunday roast and Meater+

The Sunday roast and Meater+

For fans of the traditional Sunday roast, we’ve created a special function for our smart oven, which will seal the meat. The temperature initially rises to 250°C then drops to the set heat. Have a look at our online shop too, where you’ll find the Meater+. This adds a ‘smart’ solution if you don’t have a Wi-Fi oven and want to cook your meat (and fish) to perfection using a wireless thermometer.

The manufacturers supply a dedicated app, which you add to your smartphone or tablet. You place the charged probe in the centre of the meat or fish you plan to cook. Once it’s in the oven, you tap the Setup Cook icon on your app to choose the type of meat or fish. Then simply press Start Cook and this app will estimate your cooking, which includes resting time if relevant.

Combination microwave smart ovens with steam

Smart Technology Oven, Steam Oven, Coffee Machine, & Wine Cabinet in Stainless Steel

If you’re looking for an innovative appliance, which will meet multiple needs, a combination microwave with steam could be perfect. Our new smart oven, the CM2600, does just this as you can steam, bake, grill and microwave your feed with ease. This model is, of course, Wi-Fi enabled, too, using our Caple Home app, which we designed for the UK market.

Smart oven considerations

At Caple, our special Steam+ option can be found on our combination ovens. So, when we decided to introduce this programme to our luxury microwave, we knew this feature would appeal. After all, you can prepare fresh food, which will retain all its nutrients with a temperature range from 40-100°C. We’ve added an automatic setting duration of 20 minutes. And you can even set the cooking time on this smart oven to suit your needs, from 1 minute to 9 hours 59 minutes. All of this is available alongside a whole host of other features and functions, making this smart oven incredibly versatile.

Smart oven considerations

Built-in black glass combi microwave and steam oven

Last but by no means least, we have developed a microwave combi and steam setting. In fact, it’s one of my favourite programmes in this smart oven because you’ll benefit from speed cooking, which will retain all the moisture. You can activate the steam function with a temperature which rises to 100°C. However, we have created a ‘pulsing’ function as our microwave and steam functions alternate. What are the results? Well, you can enjoy perfectly cooked food every time.
