Choosing your kitchen sink tap

May 13, 2020
Categories: ,

Most of us are now spending a huge amount of time in our kitchens. We’re preparing lots of home-cooked meals for ourselves and our families. And in addition to the dishes, we’re washing our hands – thoroughly – many times a day. So, it’s likely that one of your home’s hardest working products right now is your kitchen sink tap!

And, if you’re thinking about investing in a new model for the future, now is the perfect time to assess the different options. There are lots of different elements to consider, in terms of both function and form. Luckily, our product manager Luke Shipway has plenty of expert advice to help you choose the perfect style:

When planning your new kitchen, don’t forget that taps can make or break your design. After all, you’ll be spending a fair amount of time at your kitchen sink and the style you choose will frame your sink area. Even after lockdown, I think we’ll all be washing more – whether it’s our hands and/or the fresh produce we buy before we store it away. So, it makes sense to consider your tap options carefully. For instance, I think durability is key but so is the design. Look for models, which require a standard worktop/sink cut-out of 35mm diameter (this is standard and applies to most of our taps), if you’re looking for easy installation.

Black taps

If you’re wondering which colour to choose, I can reveal that black is set to be one of the leading kitchen design trends this year. In fact, this is why we’ve added this as a new block colour in a luxurious satin finish to two of our best-selling kitchen sink taps. If you don’t already know, these are our  dual control Avel and single control Ridley solid stainless steel models. Of course, you can have them in any of our other existing colour ways – gunmetal, copper, chromite black and gold. But this new finish is one for those of you who are looking to lead the way in your kitchen with the latest trend.

Our black steel taps, which launch this summer, add an instant modern edge to any kitchen environment. Also, this shade works well with most neutral colour schemes. So, you don’t have to consider a monochrome look in your kitchen. And it matches beautifully with natural materials such as marble, stone and timber. Another advantage? Unlike certain other finishes, such as chrome,

it shouldn’t show too many fingerprints, so it’s easy to keep clean. We’ve produced two designs in this finish, so you’ve got more versatility. This way, you can choose either single or dual controls, which gives you maximum choice on how you control your water flow, temperature and mix. In terms of the tech spec, both our Avel and the Ridley require a minimum 0.5 bar pressure.

Eco-friendly taps

For filtered water fans, our Harlo Puriti could be the perfect choice for your kitchen sink tap. Again, we’ve embraced the trend for black, as we’ve just launched a model in this striking new colour. In line with our new Avel and Ridley, this features black steel, making it the perfect choice if you want to add the wow factor to your sink area. Of course, versatility is key at Caple, so we offer other finishes too. In fact, this kitchen sink tap comes in stainless steel, copper and gunmetal.

Filtered tap water doesn’t just taste great but it’s better for the environment, too. And this is something I think we’ve become even more acutely aware of, during lockdown. In fact, it was Earth Day on April 22nd, which is all about looking at ways to protect the environment. In light of this, did you know that a Caple water filter can treat 6,000 litres? Compared with purchased water, that translates into a reduction of 3,000 two-litre plastic bottles in just one household!

So, our Puriti collection helps save your pennies, as well as the environment. In fact, if you bought that amount of water in plastic bottles, it would cost you around £3,800. This kitchen sink tap comes with a handy scale inhibitor, to help reduce the build-up of scale in your kettle, too. So that’s one less job to worry about – and in times like these, every little helps!

Are you short on space? This is not a problem with this kitchen sink tap. We’ve designed our filtration system for the Harlo Puriti to fit neatly in the unit beneath your sink. Simply turn the filtration lever, and your normal cold-water supply simply diverts via the filter to the tap. Replacement filters are easy to purchase via our website too.

Dual Control Taps

If you’re looking for a cutting-edge kitchen sink tap to complement your contemporary hub of the home, I’d recommend our new Joya. This eye-catching swan-neck design features separate circular handles, which incorporates a striking knurled effect, showcased here in gold.

I really think the diamond-cut detailing adds a luxurious finish. In fact, I can tell you we’re currently producing matching kitchen cabinet handles, which you will have seen as a concept in gold, if you visited our kbb Birmingham stand earlier this year.

Hot Water Taps

We have even added a 3-in-1 steaming hot water model to our new Joya collection. So, I think you’ll agree there’s something for everyone. The latter will free up valuable worktop space and will be handy for freeing up your time with tea and coffee on tap.

Our new Joya tap comes black steel (coming soon), gold and copper, so you’re sure to find a colour to suit your décor. In fact, each style can be teamed with a variety of sinks in matching colour ways for a more streamlined aesthetic. You also don’t have to worry about durability as we use a special metal coating

for this type of finish. In fact, it’s highly resistant to scratches, tarnish, fading and corrosion. The technique involved is called PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition). This process vaporises solid metal in a vacuum and deposits it as a pure metal or alloy coating. It’s so effective, it’s even used on Rolex watches.

Industrial Chic

Industrial chic is another strong trend within home interiors this year. I think it’s a style that works for virtually any room, but is especially suited to kitchens. Now there are many ways in which to harness this type of industrial vibe.

Neutral colour palettes featuring black and grey, and functional materials such as metal and brick, are a great starting point. I think exposed pipework and retro-looking appliances are also key style characteristics.

Industrial chic

At Caple, we’re embracing the industrial trend with our new Cog kitchen sink tap. Launching soon, this latest model is made from solid stainless steel with a stylish blackened copper finish. It combines old-world charm with a sleek modern design that’s perfect for any modern, industrial-chic hub of the home. It will work well with a wide range of different Caple sinks, especially stainless steel and ceramic models. Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles, to create your own unique aesthetic.
